Jack Canfora’s plays have been read and performed throughout the United States since 2001. His play Place Setting was read in Los Angeles in September, 2005 and starred Steven Weber and Jon Cryer. In June, 2007, the New Jersey Repertory Theatre staged Place Setting where it received excellent notices. The New York Times wrote that the play has “unusually punchy writing” while the New Jersey Star-Ledger raved that the play is “funny and fascinating,” had “wonderfully incisive wit” and “tells the truth about how 21st century men and women view relationships.” In July of 2008, Place Setting was reading London at the Soho Theatre and was received very enthusiastically. It is currently in development for a full production. His play Poetic License had its world premiere in September 2008 at the New Jersey Repertory Theatre. Its earlier incarnation, A World with Snow, was performed in a staged reading in March 2005 and starred Austin Pendleton. His one act comedy "Viking Funeral" was named a winner of the 2002 “N ational One Act Play Contest.” His one act play Object Permanence also received many accolades, winning a Finalist Prize in Stageplays.com’s international “Best Plays 2000” competition as well as being named a winner of the 2001 “National One Act Play” contest. In 2002 Jack was named “Best Playwright” by The American Theatre of Actors. Jack’s writing also includes work for PBS television as well as serving as a writer for the award winning former internet magazine, Angst American Style, where his work was featured on CNN. His sketch comedy writing was frequently seen in Manhattan, most notably on the main stage of the world famous comedy club Caroline’s. The Daily News hailed his sketches as “...very funny and clever.” |
